You’re a successful, competent, capable, and amazing woman. People love working with and being around you. You have a reputation for getting things done, beautifully, and with an attitude that people find magnetic. You’re the real deal successful woman and you’ve worked hard to create this in your life.
So, when it comes to being that successful woman, why doesn’t it feel quite the way you thought it would? And why do you constantly wonder whether you’re actually successful because you thought success would feel…different. More alive? More energized? More fulfilled? More you.
You’re not alone. So many of us have achieved what we think success is and we still don’t feel like we’ve got life quite figured out. There are a few key elements that conveniently get left behind when society broadcasts what it means to be successful and these are the exact things that keep us from the feelings of success. The really exciting thing is that feeling successful is available in your life NOW.
So here’re the major omissions:
1. success and feeling successful is a combination of things that are totally unique to you and that only you can measure.
No one else can tell you what success feels, looks, or tastes like and you can’t take others’ ideas of success and make them fit your life if you want to feel a certain way. Feeling successful is deeply connected to what makes you tick, what resonates, what lights you on fire!
Take a minute and write the first answer that comes to mind:
- What is it that you value most in life?
- In relationships?
- In the things you invest your energy and time in?
- What do those words mean to you?
- What are the qualities that are ingrained in you so deeply that they’re part of who you are and you use them as a means of deciding who you want to be, how you want to behave and who you want to surround yourself with because you value them so much?
Your personal values are what you use to measure meaning in your life. Values have different definitions for each person and they’re the foundation for creating things that make you feel aligned and inspired. Your values are working for you all the time, it’s just that because we are disconnected from the feelings that come with alignment to our values, we don’t realize that success IS the feeling of alignment with what we value. When your action is connected with your values and it all feels like it fits together perfectly, you feel A-MAZ-ING. Energized, present, alive.
How will you know you’re actions are connected with your values?
2. personal success may not be able to be measured by outward achievement.
When you believe that the only way to be successful is to achieve by doing more, it can be exhausting, overwhelming, and anxiety-inducing and it can foster a mindset of ‘never enough’.
This focus only measures what is outside of you. It allows others to control how you feel about your actions and leads you to a place where you diminish your inner guidance for the opinion of others. When acknowledged and honoured, your inner guidance shows you the feelings that connect you to your personal values. When you base your actions on achieving states of being that feel amazing, you allow your own measures of personal success bubble up from the inside. Your measures allow you to know what success is and whether you are meeting them.
What other measures might you use to determine if you are creating success in your life?
For me, success is about feeling like I’m doing something worthwhile and meaningful. It’s about feeling connected with my values. It’s about spending time on the things that light me up and move me forward. I want to feel alive, vibrant, inspired, and free. I value the feeling of being in alignment within myself and that my inner attunement is reflected in the outward actions I take in my life.
Success is determined by you and you can create it through inner exploration of your desires and taking actions that directly support how you want to show up and feel in the world.
